MS. LEEAY AIKAWA

Leeay Aikawa is an interdisciplinary artist who interweaves a range of materials and methods to engage with natural phenomena and presence.

Born and raised in Japan, Aikawa moved to Toronto in August 2003 for General Arts and Science program at George Brown College but later switched to the Foundation Design program (2005).
Since graduated with a Bachelor of Design degree in Illustration from OCAD University in 2009, Aikawa’s evolving nature of work has lingered between art, design, and illustration. As an illustrator and graphic designer, she has worked with clients such as New York Times, Vogue Japan, The Walrus, The Pen, The Atlantic, to name a few.

Aikawa completed her MFA in Interdisciplinary Master’s in Art Design and Media at OCAD University (2021), and she continues to exhibit her work in both solo and group exhibitions.
She is also certified in Vinyasa and Hatha yoga teaching. She obtained her first certificate in 2017 from Ashtanga lineage at Breathe Yoga Studio (300 hr-RYT) and another one from Hatha lineage in Rishikesh, India (200 hr-RYT) in the following year. She currently teaches four times a week and one of the classes is offered for free. She was hosted by Paradise Air (Matsudo, Japan) in 2019 as an artist in residence and selected by MOCA for their Mentorship Program in 2020.

Ms. Lisa graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Drawing and Painting. She is a veteran instructor at the Varley Art Gallery in Unionville, Markham and continues to teach privately. Her professionalism and creativity for teaching over 25 years are evident in her artwork and approach to teaching, as is her commitment to quality art education for children of all ages.
