“The pandemic has made the past year like no other where children have to pivot between in-person and virtual learning and created chaos in everyone’s lives as we all try to continually adapt.   I am thankful that throughout this uncertainty, my daughter was able to maintain some stability in her life by having virtual music and drawing lessons with Focus Academy in the past year.   Thank you to Ms Emily for her continued patience and dedication as it’s never easy to teach a musical instrument virtually, yet she was able to help my daughter maintain focus and interest throughout the past year.  Thank you to Ms Lisa for her passion and creativity to teach my daughter different fun art projects weekly which is something my daughter looks forward to every week!  A big thank you to Ms Regina for teaching Chloe music rudiments this past year.  This was a difficult subject, yet Ms Regina made it fun and used different strategies to help the kids understand and retain the material.  Ms Regina truly cares about the students, her goal wasn’t just to teach the kids rudiments but she truly believed that in order for kids to succeed in life, they need to learn to develop perseverance, hard-work and a positive attitude.  Throughout the past few months, these were the values that Ms Regina tried to instil in her students and I truly appreciate her time and effort.  Last but not least, I am grateful to Ms Anna for all her coordination and effort to keep parents updated of changes as the pandemic evolves.  Thank you Focus Academy to all your wonderful staff for providing quality education to my children and I look forward to having my kids attend in-person classes and camps again in the future!”

High expectations don’t just benefit behaviour, it also has a significant impact on attitude and self-worth. She wouldn’t be where she is without your help. “My kids have been students of Focus Academy since it moved into its current location in 2013. It attracted me initially by its convenient and very affordable after school pick up program. That saved me from leaving work early and rushing in heavy traffic to bring my kids to attend music lessons on time. Throughout the years, my kids learned violin, abacus, music theory, math and English tutorial in this safe and nurturing environment.

They enjoyed their music and STEM summer camps there where they could meet new friends. The administrator Ms Anna and the faculty (Ms Emily, Ms Jennifer & Ms Regina) monitor my kids’ progress and prepare them to go for various competitions and festivals, as well as Royal Conservative of Music examinations with no pressure. My husband and I are glad to see our kids advanced themselves exceeding our expectations. As they grow up, they enjoy the flexibility of taking virtual music theory and violin classes from home. This ensures no interruption in their music education in their busy high school schedule. With Ms Anna and faculty’s support, my kids are ready to challenge themselves. Hopefully, both can advance to the RCM ARCT level in the near future.”

“Our eldest daughter completed her Abacus program at Focus Academy a few years ago. Ms. Wong’s teaching was excellent, both technically and beyond the classroom. She helped elevate our daughter’s interest in math to another level. In addition, the curriculum was instrumental in teaching and instilling core values in our daughter, such as commitment and perseverance. It is now our younger daughter's turn to receive this Abacus training. Due to the pandemic in 2020, classes had switched to online Zoom sessions. We are thankful for Ms. Anna's wonderful and seamless arrangements for Focus Academy, maintaining the Abacus learning momentum from in-person to virtual classes. Online learning provides another level of flexibility and comfort; we have found that this method also fosters our involvement as parents. This in turn helps our younger daughter excel in her understanding of the material. Her enjoyment of Abacus grows with each course, and she is looking forward to a full completion of the Abacus program.

Both our daughters are applying their Abacus skills in their day-to-day activities outside the classroom. We are grateful to have joined Focus, and thank Ms. Wong for her teaching, patience, and care. Our daughters are blessed to have been students at Focus Academy.”
